About the Blog: Launching May 1st, 2009!
The Root Cellars Rock! is aimed to stimulate healthy local food consumption across the province by celebrating Newfoundland & Labrador’s agricultural heritage and stimulating growth in agriculture; through citizens, community groups, and agricultural producers. Blog space is here to give you the opportunity to learn about local agriculture, from both experts and your community! We have set up to the blog so the main page - where you are now - will host bi-weekly keynote bloggers who will be talking about their area of expertise, from the history of Root Cellars, to how to plant a garden, to the art of preserving vegetables. As well, the main page will include garden blog updates from Rick Kelly, a first-time gardener starting up a garden for this year, talking about the successes and difficulties of gardening in the city.
The Four P's of Local Food
Across the top of the blog you will see a tab labelled with FORUM. The forum is organized into the Four P's of local food - PLANTING, PICKING, PREPARING, & PRESERVING - as a way for you to engage in conversation with your community surrounding these topics. Use this discussion page to talk about your tricks of the trade, to post questions about certain problems, or to simply tell a story about one of your favourite past-times with local food! The Four P's was coined by Neil Tilley, and are being used by Root Cellars Rock! in memory of the great local organic farmer and environmentalist.
The Bloggers
The Bloggers on the Root Cellars Rock! blog will include a wide range of people with various backgrounds with local food - from experts to novices. The blog will be hosting Keynote blog posts by individuals across the province who are specially educated or experienced in various elements of local food. These include: Root Cellars Researcher Alison Dyer, the Scope's FoodNerd Andreae Prozesky, 'Gin & Tonic Gardener' Author Janice Wells, as well as several farmers from accross the province.
The Blog will also include regular contributions from a novice gardener starting out his garden for the first season, Rick Kelly, and regular updates about the latest happenings around the campaign.
